You have some good answers above.
Didn't your mom or grandma tell you to feed a cold and starve a fever? Don't try to lose weight while you are fighting off a viral upper respiratory infection. Your body needs calories and protein to fight back.
I have always gone to soft boiled eggs and toast in this situation - plus, of course, a good chicken soup.
I agree - no milk. (I'm a retired doctor of internal medicine, and I don't know why - - but no milk always seems appropriate when I am sick like this. Perhaps I just lose my taste for it, but it does seem to leave a nasty coating in the throat.)
A good multivitamin is always useful and I like reasonable doses of Vitamin C (500 to 100 mg per day - not Linus Pauling super doses).
I like orange juice, but it is acid and can irritate a sore throat.
Sherbet goes down well for some reason and the coolness eases the sore throat.
I suggest the sugarless menthol cough drops.
' Lots of rest and whatever fluids you prefer.
You can get back to your diet and exercise program in a few days. Sorry you are sick over the holiday.

Every answer before me is a good answer
Two things I ad
First, no cold water or anything cold. Anything you drink or eat must be at the least warm.
Second, whenever I have a cold I always kill it quickly with lots and lots of black tea with a little honey and a slice of lemon. Drink as many as you can if you can almost one after the other non stop or as closely as per that.
You’ll be running in and out of the lou. And the more you do the faster you’ll get rid of the virus.
As Spreedog as said do no try and worry about loosing weight until you have lost the flu first.
During an upper respiratory infection your priority should be to loose the virus ASAP.
Weight loss can be easy for as long as you have a controlled mind.
After you have lost your virus drop me a line and I’ll tell you how to loose any excessive weight and stay in perfect shape while keeping very fit without much trouble at all.

Chicken soup is still one of the best things for upper respiratory infections. If you don't have any, any kind of hot broth soup will help. And drink as much liquid, like water, juice, weak tea, etc. you can. If you feel nauseated try some plain soda crackers (Krispy, Nabisco Premium, etc.)

water, fruit, low sodium soup. If you are past the soup phase then try beans(like white, or pinto) brown rice, and a side of vegetables. Or brown rice a piece of lean mean only about 4 oz and a side of vegetables. Eat yougart or oatmeal for breakfast, limit it to one pack. Snack on fruit and veggies through out the day. for lunch eat a low sodium soup, or a small salad with an egg white on top(take out the yolk). Then have another small meal perhaps of different fruit mixed together, or a smoothie. For dinner have the brown rice with either beans or lean meat, and vegetables. You can have two servings of veggies if you don't put butter on them... spray on olive oil and lemon juice instead. only one serving of everything else.
Load up on calcium pills and vitamin C pills... the calcium pills are because the more calcium in you diet the less fat your body will absorb because calcium acts as a transporter for fat and will transport it out right through your poo... and vitamin c of course get you better quicker. you may also want to add ecinecha(spelling) and zinc to your regimine. If you feel really dehydrated even after drinking lots of water, add some gatorade to your diet. Also you can drink lots of tea, hold the sugar... add some honey and lemon instead.

Water.
Skip the OJ, take vitamin C pills.
OJ is really acidic and can tear up the lining in your throat.
Any drink with milk must be avoided to reduce risk of irritating your throat, skip all carbonated and extremely sugary drinks. Honey can soothe a sore throat in a tablespoon every 20 or 30 minutes.
Warm drinks like green or white tea, hot cocoa [made with water not milk], room temperature water can all help too.
When eating, eat fruits. Apples, pears, grapes, anything with low acidity but high in vitamins can help you. Turkey & [glazed]ham helped me a lot.
You can probably really eat anything if you want to get technical, but just avoid things with high acid.
:]

Haven't read all other answers for lack of time, but I'm sure someone must have suggested it already: HOMEMADE CHICKEN SOUP!!!!
Also eat soft foods like mashed or boiled potatoes (better with skins on, but thoroughly scrub and rinse). Also all the vegetables you can eat.
Drink plenty of liquids (not sodas), preferably juices; pear, peach, mango, apple, banana, apricot. NOT THE VERY ACID ONES, like cranberry.
