Does obesity really cause diabetes? It is getting the blame for the raising numbers of children with diabetes?

Both types of diabetes can be passed down from generation to generation.
Type 2 is more likely to be passed down than type 1.
Obesity does not cause diabetes but being overweight does make a person more at risk for developing diabetes.

Yeah!! the media likes a simple explaination for every ill! So they jumped on the bandwagon that obesity causes diabetes. But if that were the case how is it that 50% of the obese persons do not have diabetes????

Diabetes type 2 is genetic! Even if not diagnosed in previous generations, it is there in the background. Being overweight is a causitive in about half of all diagnosis.

I believe that the blame should be on the Food Pyramid for the rising number of children getting type 2 diabetes. It emphasises that we should be getting over half of our nutrients from starchy foods!

It seems obesity is a major cause of diabetes , as the scientists have found. In the last 2 years I have lost 65 lbs and my sugar has gone down considerably. I still take pills , but, half what I took 2 years ago. Exercise and diet can control diabetes in most cases.

obesity is a risk factor for diabetes. Diabetes is a genetic disease, if the person is genetically vulnerable to diabetes then obesity will provoke diabetes. there are theories about diabetes caused by metabolic problems like obesity but i think it is totally genetic. but its like a wound, you wont feel it burns until you put salt on it so as for diabetes it is genetic but it does not appear until other problem in the body provokes it.

It does not cause diabetes, BUT.....it does significantly INCREASE the chances of becoming diabetic.
