This sounds like a mild stroke or "transient ischemic event"; generally, a blood vessel in the brain will narrow or be blocked for a short period of time, during which that portion of the brain is not getting the oxygen it needs to function. The function which that part of the brain controls shuts down temporarily as a result. Your mother's T.I.E. apparently affected the part of her brain that controls movement, so she could not move for a few minutes.

If your mother has not seen a neurologist, I urge you to take her as soon as possible.

Good luck!

Edit: OK, your doctor is a MORON. Strokes USUALLY affect only one side, but SOMETIMES affect both sides briefly. Take her to see SOMEBODY else, please! I don't care if she's 139!

i would strongly suggest seeing another dr. it sounds like she may have had a very mild stroke. dont quote me on that though but people just dont get paralized for no reason. you didnt state her age but regardless she needs to be seen again!!

If this happened to me, I would be afraid it was a stroke. I'm glad you took her to the doctor.
