I decided to throw a surprise 40th bday party for my boyfriend. The problem is.. His birthday is Jan 25th. He works for a fire dept and his group works the 26th, so i wouldn't want to have it on the day his whole group works. I would have a hard time getting him to take off. The next weekend which is the 2nd, his group works on sunday, so my next option was the weekend of feb the 9th beacuse his group is off the entire weekend and so i am. Alot of halls were booked straight through january and are very expensive on saturdays. I was lucky to find a hall for free to use on the 9th of feb. In your opinion is the 9th of Feb too late to have a surprise birthday party for someone who's birthday is really the 25th of jan? I am just pressed for time and the weekend close to his bday was booked and the whole work issue. And i felt as though it would be hard for families to go during the week at night.

I could still try to find another hall. But i waited too long already to find stuff close to his birthday. I just decided to have this party a few days ago and alot of halls are booked up. His birthday is less than a month away so i also wanted enough time to send out invites.

It is never to late to celebrate a persons birthday. It will most likely add to the surprise since the actual birth-date will have passed. This will mean that your boyfriend will think that nothing even remotely related to his birthday will be happening at that time.

You could still do something small and sweet on his actual birthday. When my husband has to work on his birthday, I make him birthday cupcakes that he takes to work and shares with his co-workers and I keep one at home with one candle on it that he could have to make a wish with and share with me when he comes home.

I would also have a small birthday gift for him at that time.

Good luck, I am sure you boyfriend will be thrilled with his surprise party and will not care that it is not on the day of his birthday.

yeeep.. feb 9th is waaaay too late for a surprise B-Day party. If you do a surprise B-Day party you have to do it the weekend before or after else it really doesn't mean anything. Now if you told him that you wanted it to be a surprise but couldn't book the hall until 2 weeks out then it would be a nice party.

So have the party Feb.9Th. do not stress yourself out.
Many of the firefighters will welcome the opportunity to be together.
That was really nice of you to hold off until the holidays were over.
Have a great time. And please tell the guys how grateful I am to know that they care.
My husband enterered a home on fire one day in our neighborhood to rescue the neighbors dog.
How could I be proud of him when I knew he was in that house that was on fire.. I am and I just can't believe how brave he was.... He really was the hero of the day.

Let's see: you've booked the hall, you've narrowed down the logical choice from the calendar events, and it's pretty much a done deal ... I'm going to go with "what the heck - everything's planned for the 9th anyway... "

I dont think so u should like take him out or cook for him on his B-day and then he really wont expect anything. And then you hit him with the surprise party. I think thats a great idea. Have Fun

what about the weekend before?
If it weren't a surprise, I would say Feb. 9 is fine, but he's going to think you forgot about his birthday or didn't do anything special!

That is fine besides I think he would want a party in which he can hang with all his friends! Talking about a surprise! I have never expected a party AFTER my b-day! AWESOME!

I don't think it is too late. It will really be a surprise, because he will think since his birthday is passedthat nothing else will be happening.Go for it!

I'd probably do it BEFORE his actual birthday -- that way he'd be surprised, AND you'll probably have an easier time getting him in the party mode better before than after.
