As a child, my mother (who is Mexican) would make posole or menudo for the New Year. That and we would have LOTS of party platters for the New Year's Eve. Veggie, Meat & Cheese trays, Cookies, Cider, Egg Nog, Punch, etc...
For New Year's Day... we would sometimes have pork tamales or a pineapple glazed ham. Hope that helps a little. :o)

ham is always a great choice..unless people of the jewish religion would be attending ....if in your price range filet mignon is a great choice...or just a good choice of meat would work also....if more informal try a great lasgana recipe paula dean has a great one the paula dean.com website and actullay several others that might work....if it's very informal go with appetizers (most people love that) and you can make such a wide variety that i'm sure everyone can find something they enjoy ...best of luck and happy new year to you and yours

Well tradition and somewhat superstion has always prompted my entire family to eat black eyed peas for your coins and pennies for the new year and collard greens for your dollars for the new year among other things. The best thing to do is look up some Paula Deen recipes.

It is suppose to be good luck to eat Ham and Black-eyed peas on New Years. I try to do this every year. Sometimes I put the black eyed peas into a stew. I make my usual clove ham with pineapple's.
