Well I did have a chiropracter, I was going to him for a yar and some change. Then I physical therepy that didn't work I will continue to take the meds I am prescibed but I will be going to another hospital who will help me deal with pain management they gave me a referal for a clinic but the clinics in my town are horrible, I am going out of the city where im from to see a specialist in a very good hospital in about an hour but thank you for your answer I found it quite helpful to some degree. I've had alot of electric therepy and ultra sound therepy done to my back it may have helped you but it was garbage it me because 10 minutes after there therepy I was back in pain it only lasted 10 min and luckly the chiropracter gave me a personal massage after my treatments because that helped it a little bit and made it a lil more effective then just therepy. But still didn't do anything like you and my mom said "Get another alternative other than sugury" and that it what im going to do today

L-4 and L-5 is bad. There are alternatives to surgery if you have that option but, you stated that it's already been suggested, surgery.
Steroids actually break down the bones in time, you can't take them to long, people make this mistake. Steroids are good for a period then you have to go to something else and, they don't heal as your doctor says, they only help. They will not repair the disc's

Stay away from a chiropractor unless he sees your MRI's and /or X-Rays and, only if he's a reputable chiropractor. He can make a wrong move and cripple you for life.

Your 18 years old, your to young for this, what happen?

I am not going to suggest surgery but, I see no option from here with your information. See at least two other orthopedics surgeons to get an opinion first, don't jump into it.

Take the prescribed meds. There are many alternatives to surgery that should be explored. Steroids are good because they stop the inflamation and allow the muscles to relax and quit spasming. I have actually received relief from a chiropractor. Its worth a try. It is not true that back surgery does not work. It works very well in the vast majority of cases. However, it is still a last resort. Get a second opinion and again I highly recommend letting a chiro have a shot at it. there are many chiro quacks, so get a referral from someone you trust. Your orthopod will not give you a referral.
Good luck
