Just as the value of a thing is not known if pains are not taken to achieved it, so is the beauty of a Rose not appreciated by one who doesnt know the sting of its thorns...

pankh-e-gulab pe jab padi, Khuda ka noor ho gayi...

Great people say that this world has duality(Maya) in everything. Every Happiness has pain, every day has a night, everything beautiful has something horrible, every birth has death. This is the reason why people want Salvation, they want to get free from all sufferings.

Rose is a flower which is beautiful so it has thorns as its duality, nothing in this world can be perfectly good or bad. Only God is perfect.

We do not know the thorns, some people believe that they can live happily ever which is foolish, Wise people know that there will be sufferings unavoidable due to Karma and they face them with courage.

Dear Sister Aradhna, yes i agree that the beauty of the Rose is with its thorns. The Truth is always beautiful. The thorns are for the protection of the rose. Even when you apply the analogy of the rose and its thorns to human life you will agree that the persons who matter to us, we always accept them with open arms, accepting them with both their positive sides and negative sides alike. This is what true love is all about. Remember, we always accept the persons we love, and we always tolerate strangers.

The rose is pleasures/happy events in life and thorns, to protect rose from unscrupulous ones who make haste to pluck only flower for only his selfish enjoyment, just as hurdels/hindrances/grieves and unbappy events life causes devotee/any person to be more careful in life and step slowly but steadily so that pleasent moments are preserved for long time sharing with others also.

the beauty of the rose is in its leaf. it is easy to draw the flower, easier still to draw the thorn, but even a master draughtsman is baffled by the rose leaf.

the beauty is in what is permanent and living, not in what is transient however lovely it may be.

and certainly not in a dead carapace.

a few lines:

it's a long drive,
the road i took to survive.

thorns and roses go hand in hand,
it's like going thru desert sand.

girl, if u wish to come with me,
don't expect the journey to be trouble free.

shoulder a bit when i'm in need,
hug n kiss me when i do succeed.

I agree with you. Rose represents the creation. Creation is not complete if it has only good and no evil.
