Very true statement! There is no need to be rude and dismissive of people, whatever their rank, as a business needs all its employees to keep it running - from "the big cheese" at the top, to the office junior/cleaner at the bottom! Also, as a boss you can get much more out of your workforce by showing respect for them, as they will show loyalty in return. This does not compromise the rule of working!

Surely, if you should fall, you will already have killed off anyone you did not like while making your way to the top of the heap? Or have I missed something?

What you need is a day out in the company of Al Capone, who most certainly will be only too glad to explain to you the importance of killing off your rivals before they get the better of you.

And, one more thing, do please try and come up with a good slogan which will enthuse the public and may encourage them to buy whatever it is you have to sell.

Al Capone's fave one liner is = "Give the people what they want". Which he did. The people wanted booze and he brewed beer in Canada, where such activity was perfectly legal and then shipped it across into Chicago.

So, if you want to get to the top, you have to be ruthless. The idea that you must care about other people's feelings and their wants and needs is total nonsense.

For myself personally, I'd rather that the ruthless of this world were shot dead on sight - problem is knowing which ruthless person to kill off.

Let's look at it like this. During WW2 the British had managed to infiltrate the secure area around Burchtesgartten, Adolf Hitler's Alpine retreat, and had two SAS [Mi6] snipers in place. Their task was to shoot and kill Adolf Hitler. The operation was aborted on the orders of Winston Churchill. Reason why is because the head of the SS ......... would then have become the replacement for Adolf Hitler - a far worse situation would then have ensued, had the assassination taken place.

The British SOE [Special Operations Executive] had already killed Hydricht [SS Commander of Czechoslovakia]. This resulted in the mass murder by the SS of thousands of Czechs in reprisal.

The British did not want a repeat performance and did their best then to refrain from allowing a much worse monster than Hitler to take over.

The British SIS [Secret Intelligence Service] agent, Martin Bormann, [Hitler's Secretary] already had complete control over whom would be allowed in the presence of the 'leader'.

So, killing off the wrong target, could let in a much worse person.

Just keep climbing.

Yes!!! You never know who knows whom and what types of working relationships you might have in the future. The secretary down the hall from you might have the ear of "the boss" and the ability to recommend you for a promotion -- or the power to damage your reputation. That new intern might be willing to do a little extra work for you that would make you "shine" at work. One of your peers might end up being your boss. Your boss may be your best reference for another job some day. You just never know. So, at minimum, preserve ALL relationships at work, and if you need to vent some frustration about a co-worker, then talk to your spouse, your pet, or your mom.

It is wise to be kind regardless of whether you are on the way up, down or just plain on the level!!! But be warned dont just be kind for your own gain. You should be sincere at all times.

"There is nothing more difficult to carry out, nor more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to handle, than to initiate a new order of things. For the reformer has enemies in all those who profit by the older order, and only lukewarm defenders in all those who would profit by the new order, this lukewarmness arising partly from fear of their adversaries, who have the laws in their favour; and partly from the incredulity of mankind, who do not truly believe in anything new until they have had actual experience of it."

I Think we should all be kind to people, if only it was that easy,

Im a great believer that you should always treat others how you wish to be treated.. and that is exactly what i do.

I think this is very true. My own version of this saying includes 'because you never know who will end up being your boss'. On 2 or 3 occasions I've ended up working under someone whose job didn't on the face of it have any connection with mine.
