lol it's not that uncommon.
almost every african american has a person in their family who can pass. it's because of our mixed ancestry.

look up the hollywood movies, "Pinky" and "Imitation of Life."

you're also failing to mention that both parents are biracial. the child probably just resembles her white grandparents.

lol read a book!

Interesting article. as being white, blonde and blue eyes are all recessive traits.. This is the not the first time we’ve seen this kind of “million to one” incident though. In February of this year, the media was all aflutter over an English couple - both father and mother were of mixed black and white heritage themselves - who had “black and white twins.”

Another Australian black/white mixed woman with a white husband recently gave birth to twins Alicia and Jasmin, girls that The Daily Telegraph refers to as “one black and one white.” The paper also claims that “experts say the chance of twins being born with such different physical characteristics is about a million to one.”

The fascination with these two cases says a lot about the way we think of race. First, people are still so intent on forcing people into neat little categories. But these children are all mixed - they’re not solely “black” or “white.” Second, it’s amazing how much phenotype - especially skin color - warps people’s perceptions.

Most people simply could not look beyond the child’s dark skin.To describe the child as simply black because she had darker skin betrays the underlying racist ideology that one has to be either black or white.

There’s nothing particularly miraculous about siblings who vary greatly in phenotype. It’s simply a matter of genetic variation. There are plenty of African-American families in which this kind of variation can be found, for example, because of the genetic variation in those families that resulted from the sexual relationships between white slaveowners and their slaves. So the next time you see a story that claims that this is a “million to one” occurrence, don’t believe the hype.

It's not impossible as shown in the article.
If there is a mixed race relationship then it is very possible for the twins to take characteristics from both parents. It's to do with genes and normally darker skin is a dominant factor however the second twin recieved the recessive gene causing her to be alot lighter than her sibling

Damn, you people need to learn how to freaking read.

The parents of the twins in the article are both of mixed race. Therefore, it's really not that freakish that they have one black-looking child and one white-looking child, since both the mother and the father of the babies each has a white parent and a black parent. Unusual, definitely, but not freakish.

My Science teacher told me something about it and it is something to do with genetics.

It is in the genes. A dominant gene is a gene that dominates another gene for a certain trait like the color of the eyes, shape of the nose, etc.. The gene that gets dominated becomes a recessive genes. However, sometimes recessive genes eventually becomes dominant overtime.

With this couple, the genes of the black skin is the dominant while the white skin is recessive one. The recessive genes somehow became dominant overtime while the child was in the womb of the mother.

It's quite complicated but, im trying to give you the basics of genetics. :)

OK read the article. first of all both parents aren't 100% black. both have white mothers and black fathers, therefor making it possible that when the egg was fertilize and split in half making fraternal twins, that allowed room for racial difference. now had the egg not been split there is no way that could have happened.

cute kids. As the article explains, the couple are both mixed race and one child took the black genes while the other took the white genes.

Pure ignorance. The couple is mixed. Both have white mothers and black fathers. Its called genetics.

Either the woman cheated, or both parents had some white genes and the million in one chance happened.

Its just genetics. Plain and simple. People really need to learn to read. You ever notice ignorant people are also stupid?

My friend and I are really close and we always used to joke that we are twins even though one of us is white and the other black. Well, it could be true now!
