I went for an interview today, because i enrolled in a nursing school, but i don't think i would get in because of my rash,i've eczema for years and it comes and goes, and the interviewer said i have to think about myself too, what if i had to bath a HIV-infected or AIDS patients,i can get infected with it if i have a rash at that time,is it true?i really want to get in,but coz of this,i don't think i would have a chance..does this mean just because i have eczema i won't even stand a chance to reach my dreams and be a nurse?

No, that doesnt mean you are totally out because you have exzema. it is true thought that you must think of yourself first, having exzema you may get whatever the patient have because it is an open rash. See a doctor to see if you can get a ointment or some meds for it. Good Luck!

This interviewer is wrong. I am a former Med Lab technologist and a former supervisor (floor) for a large med clinic.
There are both controls and medications for eczema. First, don't worry, tell this person you want to become a nurse and will handle it. If she insists tell her you want to speak with her supervisor.
Then see your doctor if you don't have a allergist. My daughter has eczema very bad and gets a shot once a month beside medications and is almost free of it. She does have outbreaks but, it's her fault. I do also. I have more allergies then anyone and, I worked with more diseases then you'd want to think of.
This person is being bias toward you, you tell her that.

your chances of being a nurse w/eczema is 100%.....the rest of the stuff is up to you.......i have eczema and have taken care of hiv/aids patients......eczema or not we usually gown up and wotnot....just practice good hygiene and wear personal protection equipment appropriate to the situation...i work as a nursing assistant so have more close contact with patients than a nurse and everything has gone pretty dandy with me....

I think your chances are as good as anybody's. I know a lot of nurses with problems far worse than yours like drug addiction, unsafe promiscuity, abusive behavior, and just plain stupid, to name a few. You sound like a caring, compassionate person. That's the main ingredient to being a nurse (aside from the education). I wish you good luck.

100%. Eczema is not contagiuos. it either heridetary or seasonal.

It depends how bad it is. With staph and bacterial infections that are passed from one to another you may pose a high risk of getting it yourself in this field of work. I would consider something else in the medical field that limits your exposure to patients or consider Vet medicine.
