I bought a big piece of ham from Wegman yesterday. I am just wondering do I have to cook it or is it already cooked? It looks like the ham you get at the sandwich shop.

Read the label. If it says "fully cooked", then just heat and serve or slice for cold sandwiches. Most hams are fully cooked.

Most holiday hams are pre-cooked. There should be directions on the package on how to cook it..Even pre-cooked hams require quite a bit of time to reheat completely through, so read the directions so you will know approximately how long to leave in the oven before serving.

If you are just using it for sandwiches, you can slice it up and heat slices on a cookie sheet in the oven on about 350 degrees. It should not take more than 15 minutes or so, depending on your oven.

Fresh hams are generally large cuts of meat that look the color of pork chops. These hams depending on the size can take hours to cook. Also, it is not going to taste or look like deli ham when you have finished. So if you are looking for sandwich ham, use the pre-cooked and either heat it up whole or in slices as needed.

Read your package directions carefully. Some hams include a glaze that you put on it during the cooking process...some require the ham to be foil covered, others do not...and not all hams cook at the same temperature or for the same length of time.

The ham is pre cooked. It's safe to eat right out of the market. No need to microwave anything, or even cook for that matter. I buy them a lot of times when they are on sale to make sandwiches with. The heating instructions are there just so you can heat it without over drying it or over cooking it. If it's warm enough for you, have at it.

The package should tell you if it is fully cooked or cured ham in either case you can warm it or eat it cold doesn't matter. But if you are going to warm it be carefull not to over cook as it will become very dry. Uncooked ham is marked as fresh ham and you can tell the difference in color and also tells you it has to be cooked.

It depends on the ham. It should say on the label "pre-cooked", "partially cooked", or "uncooked". It is uncooked or partially cooked, you will need to cook it.

Usually, if it is sold in pieces, it is fully cooked.
