Varies for each aircraft and altitude. Most commercials will cruise at an airspeed of Mach 0.85, meaning 85 percent of the speed of sound.

For example, the Boeing 777 cruises at 0.84 Mach (560 mph, 905 km/h, 490 knots) at 35,000 ft. However this is the airspeed or the speed of the air past the aircraft so ground speed will vary depending on wind speed and direction.

Don't forget to consider the wind.

We recently flew from Newark NJ to Milan, Italy, Our airspeed was 550 MPH, but had a 145 MPH tailwind, for awhile. Our ground speed was 695 MPH.
Coming back, Rome to Newark, ground speed was 550 MPH, but with a 100 MPH headwind at one stretch, , we were doing 450 MPH.

actually there are two types of speeds that deal with an aircraft. the speed with respect to the land and the other with respect to the air.....
the speed with respect to the land is different for different commercial planes.
boeing 737-400--700 to 800 kmph
boeing 747-800--850 to about 970 kmph
mc donald douglas-600-900 kmph

This depends on the plane itself. The altitude and type of aircraft (turbo) and its size all are factors of speed. Also there is ground speed and true air speed.

It depends on types of aircraft . Large aircraft with turbo jet engines flies some where around 500mph, smaller aircraft with turbo props cruises at slower speed.
