he is taking asprin i think, and another medication, cant remember the name but its like a blood thinner, cuz the blood clotted his arteries, and hes always falling asleep easily, is there something wrong with him?

Usually, blood thinners( like ASA or apirin and Warfarin(coumadin) are given to people with atrial fibrillation to avoid blood clots ( thrombosis) from forming. Blood thinners would certainly prevent heart attacks and strokes. His narcolepsy ( falling asleep easily) might be due to lack of oxygen to the brain; low blood pressure or even anemia.

Why do I need to take a blood thinner?

These medicines reduce your risk for heart attack, stroke, and blockages in your arteries and veins by preventing clumps of blood (blood clots) from forming or growing. However, blood thinners cannot break up blood clots that have already formed.

Your doctor may prescribe a blood thinner if you have had a heart valve replaced or if you have atrial fibrillation, phlebitis, congestive heart failure, or, in some cases, if you are obese.

How do blood thinners work?

Blood thinners are part of a class of medicines called anticoagulants. Although they are called blood thinners, these medicines do not really thin your blood. Instead, they decrease the blood's ability to clot. Decreased clotting keeps fewer harmful blood clots from forming and from blocking blood vessels.

In theory, danshen( a blood thinner) may lower blood pressure and should be used cautiously by patients with blood pressure abnormalities or taking drugs that alter blood pressure.

In theory, a chemical found in danshen called miltirone may increase DROWSINESS. Caution is advised while driving or operating machinery.


Headaches, and dizziness and lighheadness are rare side effects of blood thinners. His drowsiness might be a drug reaction to the blood thinner.
