Most home PCs have a power supply unit that draws around 300w-400w (plus the monitor).

An average 37" LCD or plasma television will draw between 250w and 350w.

It really depends.

If you have a modern computer and it is on all day but in power down standby mode, this will use less electricity than if you have a 42" plasma TV which is on all day.

Conversely, if you have a small traditional television this will use less than a computer which is on all day and being used.

...well, before you even consider that: To put-on or put-off the light, uses up over 30 minutes of the energy that goes into the light. ...so for example: if you put on the light entering the room, you use 30 minutes of 'light-time' directly so to speak, even if it only is on for a minutes or so... and if you put it out when leaving the room, you have just used up ONE HOUR of 'lighting energy' (If I may call it that, to make it easier to understand) even if the light only been on for a minute or so. It isn't until we as energy user understand HOW to save energy, that we can actually make a difference... What is using most energy in your house(or everybody homes) is the Fridge and the Washing Machine... TVs and Computers are very low 'users' compared to everything else in the house.

Apples and oranges. While they're similar in that they're both electronic equipment, there are many other factors affecting your question.

Your TV size and type may drawn more power than basic computer, but a computer continually performing many tasks may draw more power than a portable TV.

check the wattage. there should be a label somwhere saying how many watts each appliance burns, obviously the higher the more its going to cost.

It will only be pence difference, I guess you are a sad greeney thinking your saving the planet whilst most others squander like never before
