Not in the least.

No more "mindblowing" than the realization that a fat man in a red suit DOESN'T slide down the chimney we don't have to deliver presents once a year.

Sure, I'd love to believe that I'll spend eternity floating around a fantastical cloud palace strumming a harp if I waste my life doing this and not doing that, but the fact is that I'm going in a box in the ground to rot, just like everyone else.

No. I don't spend my time concerned with the concept of death. Its just a natural part of the life cycle. You live and then you die and thats it. When you allow yourself to mull over it, thats when it starts to scare you. Yes, the very thought of your whole existance wiped clean like a slate, the very thought of you no longer being, no longer existing is mindblowing. We are only human and thats naural.
However if you leave traces of you here on this earth you'll still be around long after you die, the memories and in the hearts of those you touched.
I'm pretty sure that after you're dead you won't know a thing and it won't be so scary anymore.

"Christans: doesn't the concept of no life after death scare you, just a little bit?

to think.. this is it. it's kind of mindblowing, don't you think?"

"Atheists: doesn't the concept of life after death scare you, just a little bit?

to think.. this is it. it's kind of mindblowing, don't you think?"

These would have been better questions. I don't think atheists care whether there is an after life.

Yes it is scary and it's a bit sad also. However you don't really have a choice about what you believe, you look at the world and it tells you there is no god, look harder and study more and it confirms it. (Reading the bible makes it worse, it's such a mish-mash of old sayings and superstitions and the churches behave like businesses). However as you get older you realise you leave the world every night and that other people experience the same things and see what you see and think what you think. So what you are does live on in others

I'm an atheist, but I do believe in life after death, just not heaven and hell or God and Lucifer controlling the whole show. I believe all of our souls go the same place, where we wait to be reborn. But who really knows? I could be just as wrong as every other person who believes in something.
Being an atheist doesn't mean having no beliefs at all, which is the most common misconception about us, it just means we don't believe in God or any higher being. We believe in evolution, not creation.

I am not an atheist, but I do weigh the possibility that this is all to our cognitive existence. It doesn't scare me. It wasn't so bad before I came into existence in this realm, so it can't be too bad to be there again. It might just be possible that someone who believes in Hell might live a more fearful life here on earth or someone who believes his is the only religion and infidels should die will miss the opportunity to do what we can WHILE we're here. Live like this might be it, and then be pleasantly surprised when its not.

No, it doesn't scare me. I doubt living forever is much fun. I'm content with getting a few decades of life now and I'm going to make the most of it. There is no reason for me to be scared of death, because I believe that when we're dead we don't feel a thing and simply cease to exist without even knowing about it. It's like dreamless sleep, except I won't wake up. There's nothing scary about that.

Not in the slightest! Why would it? Things die everyday, and it's a naturally occurring phenomenon. I don't want to die, but that's because I'm not looking for something in the after-life. I want to live my only life to the fullest. I hold no hope of heaven or hell. You should be asking the theists whether they are scared of life after death; they are the ones that are to be "judged" by god. That would scare me more than knowing that there is no after-life.

Is that why you want to believe? Is that what gives meaning to your life? Thinking it will never be over? I don't make the rules up about life, I just live it. If there is life after death, I'll find out then. I don't believe anyone alive knows, especially not the racist ministers and right wing christians.

No. Because even if I did believe in life after death, I don't think I would still be the same person to appreciate it.

How should I put this... It has no relevance to my life now, and it probably wouldn't make me happy.

Besides, why wait until the afterlife to live happily? Do it now.
