Taken from a letter of a victim of sexual abuse:

Let me say first that I am a victim of rape. I fully support a registry of sex offenders that protects me and others from this evil act of control. I have found, however, that the registry is cluttered with names of persons who are not rapists, but are labeled as such because they had a a lapse in judgement. One example in particular is that of a man seduced by a fourteen year old girl who obviously was lacking in parental guidance. Did he commit a crime? Yes he did. Is he remorseful? Yes, he suffers with his guilt every day. Is he a Rapist? HELL NO!!!!! He may have shown poor judgement, but she played her part too, and so did her parents. How fair is it to me, a victim of forcible rape, that when I look to see what sex offenders may live close to me and my family, that I see names like this posted there? This undermines what happened to me, and makes a mockery of my suffering.

That young girl got exactly what she wanted and I got something I never asked for. Is this man in the same class as the men who raped me? No he is not. I have no reason to fear this man at all. The likelihood that he would ever make such a mistake again is nonexistent. Will the men who raped me reoffend? Yes, they most surely will. Why? Because they enjoyed what they did, and it had nothing to do with sex. I hope that my story will help others to see how cluttering the registry with such names gives people a false sense of security, while ruining the lives of good people who have made a mistake. Rape is no mistake. It is an intentional, evil act of control.

I saw this letter and it made me think. What are your thoughts?

I don't think she is trying to say having sex with a 14 year old is okay. I think she is saying that we need to keep the registry a useful tool for the police and parents. The more people you put on the list, the less effective it becomes. Only predatory offenders should be on the registry is what she is trying to get across.

That's disgusting. No one asks to be raped. If a grown man chooses to have any kind of sex with a barely pubescent girl that is wrong and he deserves to be on a registered list forever. He could of said no and walked away, but he didn't.
I think the girl in the letter is bitter and angry about what happened to her and needs psychological help. As with any rape victim.

A sex offender registry is not just for rapists. It is a list of all persons convicted of sex crimes. Just because a person did not rape someone, does not mean people shouldn't be aware he lives in the area. If a man molests a 3 year old girl, but no actual rape happened, the community still needs to know. It is not to undermine rape victims, but to make the community aware of all other persons living in the area and are perhaps capable of committing a sex crime again.

Same thing happened to me, I'm a young looking 52 yr old man and this cute lil 11 year old got all dressed up when she came over to visit my daughter and started rubbing my leg and saying that I was a big strong man what else could I do but spend the next 4 hours hammering her hole, later on that night the police comeover and arrest me for rape mistakingly calling me a sex offender when it was this freaking slutbag sexwhore whose parents let her comeover and seduce ME in the first place. Where are the laws that protect decent upstanding citizens like myself from being seduced by horny oversexed mature for their age 11 year olds. I gave her what she wanted until I couldn't give any more and they gave me some ridiculous charge and this sex offender BS. I mean really what are the odds that I would force myself on an 11 year old that didn't hit on me first, huh?

THE PROBLEM WITH THE SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY IS AS THE LADY POINTED OUT IS THE INTERPRETATION OF THE LAW AND APPLICATION OF THE LAW AS TO WHO(M) FITS THE PREDATORY CLASSIFICATION.
SEXUAL RAPE IS FORCED RAPE, OF ONE AGAINST THEIR WILL, OR AS IN THE CASE OF A CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF REASON(7) YEARS OLD.THESE CHARGES ARE A TRUE VIOLATION OF SEXUAL PREDITOR AND CAN BE STARTED, AS WE HAVE ALL SEEN EARLY, THEN CONTINUE WELL INTO THE CHILD'S TEENS.
THE CASE OF KNOWN STREET WALKER WHO IS 14-15 AND HAS ID FOR 18 IS A CLEAR VIOLATION OF MISREPRESENTATION OF AGE WITH AN INTENT TO DECEIVE. IS THE CLIENT OF THOSE SERVICES A VICTIM? YES. THIS IS THE POINT THE LADY IS TRYING TO DIFFERENTIATE AND HAS DONE.
IT IS NOT MY JOB TO SORT OUT WHO IS WHOM. AN ACT OF PROSTITUTION, IS A VIOLATION OF LAW, BECAUSE OF THE PIMPS AND JOHNS RUNNING THE WOMEN. IN MANY COUNTRIES AND SOME STATES, PROSTITUTION IS RECOGNIZED AS A NORMAL ACT, AND A VERIFIED BUSINESS AND LICENSE TO OPERATE IS GIVEN. HEALTH REQUIREMENTS ARE MET ETC..
I REMEMBER A SO CALLED MADAM WHO WAS CHARGED WITH RUNNING A RING OF ESCORTS. THE COURT TRIED TO PROVE SHE WAS IN THE PROSTITUTION BUSINESS. THE COMMENT WAS:
"THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PROSTITUTE AND A BUSINESS MAN?"
THE BUSINESS MAN WILL ALWAYS SAY: IT'S BEEN A PLEASURE DOING BUSINESS WITH YOU.
" THE PROSTITUTE WILL ALWAYS SAY:
" IT BEEN A BUSINESS DOING PLEASURE WITH YOU."

NOW YOU MAKE THE CALL?

Ran across a 15 year old prostitute working with wife of 'pimp'. her papers said 22 and one young officer was trying to see if he could get a freebie later. Prints and background check came back 18 first time with a please verify note, final check showed 15. Age was hard to tell, she was bigger than partner who was mid twenties, both known on street about a year. Illinois law said don't charge customer serious if believed to be prostitute 14 over. Another complaint from 14 and 15 year old on rapes- main concern was they didn't get $100.00 promised, background check for defendant/accused had to disclose clinic records- accused advised to get lots of penicillin, charges dropped to disorderly conduct. One was caught turning tricks night before court date, defendant notified. Offender registry needs close watch and maybe a bit of purging. .
