I have a 2000, BMW Z3 Roadster. It came stocked w/ Harmon Kardon speakers & a crappy stereo (w/1disk CD changer). It melted in Houston.
I want the best of the best. BMW Stereos are way to expensive. I would choose a "Bose" but I guess, they only makes car stereos for certain car models. What about one w/a GPS? Help!!!!!!! Please

Its preference.
Everybody has different views on things.
Some people likes the visual effect, some like the performance and don't care what it looks like.
I personally don't care about the look all that much and performance is my thing.
For me I like to go with:
Alpine
Kicker
MTX
Rockford Fosgate
There's more that is good, maybe even better but I havent experienced their products.
Anyways, go with what feels and sounds right.
Good luck!

I just saw a new CD/DVD/MP3/MP4/GPS car unit that blew me away... has touchscreen for ALL operations including tuning the radio and GPS operation. It has a 4" screen and can play movies and all kinds of video and audio - for $399, it really looks sweet! Its made by VR3 and you can get it on Ebay or some other places online... if you want a unit that looks like it does everything - this is the one... wish I had $400 bucks laying around... it would be in my car by the weekend.

guessing you will have to have it installed you need to allow about $150 for parts and labor leaving you $350 for the stereo. Consider nav not an option at this point. Might want to get one with bluetooth built in. Look at the pioneer model DEHP9800BT.
