need help with my printer i just got it for a friend and i want to scan picz only ....when i turn it on it says error:lightmagenta ink cartridge error cartridge replacement is necessary. press the color button to begin.
and i want to scan picz ....it won't let me ....only the copy button is on .i can't press the scan button...and when i go to the Epson smart panel it says "unable to access the scanner because it is not ready or another application is using it. please make sure that the scanner is on and connected to you computer or close all scanning applications ....

U can't
The warning to replace ink is MORE than to allow printing, the ink is used to libricate the head system which it does when powered on.
Also the printer does not KNOW you only want to scan, so locks itself down till supplies received to PROTECT itself from possible damage.
Install a new ink cartridge, problem solved.
