Red Hook has underwent a renaissance. Only ten years ago, it was a drug infested crime ridden neighborhood. Slowly but surely the brownstone walk ups were refurbished and the neighborhood has improved tremendously. Today those brownstones sell for over a million dollars.

Red Hook itself (Van Brunt Street, Fairway, residential streets) is interesting and fun to hang out in. However, there are also large public housing projects at the northeast boundary of Red Hook, and there have been drug problems, muggings, etc. connected with the projects.
