If there is a genuine issue with a lazy eye, glasses are needed in combination with eye exercises and probably patching as soon as possible.
This however is exceedingly unlikely if you've made it into your teens.
In which case you don't NEED glasses, but there's a pretty good chance that they'd be USEFUL. A different category entirely.
With a few rare exceptions, wearing glasses doesn't make your eyes go better or worse.
If you are going shortsighted, you are likely to keep going shortsighted, whether or not you have glasses, until you stop growing.
There are some techniques, largely involving contact lenses, which appear to slow this, in some people.
Apart from the issue of lazy eyes in children, the only thing that comes as an absolute NEED is the driving standard.
Apart from that anything between preferring to walk around in a total blur and wearing even the smallest prescription religiously every waking hour, is your business. Whatever suits you.
My suggestion would be that you find out how good your eyes *could* be, and on that basis you might find glasses a good thing to have around to use *sometimes*.

It depends I noticed the same problem after my sophomore year in high school. But if it is affecting your school work and life It's probably a good idea. It does make your eyes a little bit lazy after wearing them but it's worth being able to see. I probably wouldn't listen to your mom. I don't know if you have your drivers lisence or not yet but it makes it hard to pass without glasses or contact lenses.

Your eyes won't get lazy but they will change. The first couple years in glasses your eyes change a lot and may get worse. Its just how it works. If you can see enough to be safe driving and such then wait, but I would get them soon. Also, if you are prone to headaches, getting glasses could be the answer.

Yes, if you feel you need glasses, get an exam to be fitted for glasses. The longer you put it off and read, and all you're eyes will get weeker. You need to get something done ASAP!
I wear glasses and they can be a pain, but being near-sighted, I have to wear them. They're no fun, but better than squintting.
