I have been using Advil Liquigels for about a week and a half to deal with tooth pain. I had been taking 6 a day (recommended max on bottle) but then day before yesterday I took 8, and then yesterday I took a total of 10. I have been prescribed 9 Advil a day before, so I didn't think this was any big deal.

Each liquigel is 200 milligrams, and from what I've found online, the maximum daily *prescription* dosage of Advil is 3200 milligrams, meaning a total of 16 Advil max in a 24 hour period. Can anyone confirm that I have this right?

I had a root canal today and have taken a total of 12. I feel ok, just very tired, but I am almost positive this is due to lack of sleep and a difficult day from the root canal, and it being late.
But, I just wanted to see if anyone knew for sure that the amt. of Advil I've taken is ok. I want to go to sleep but now I'm paranoid. I'm a big person if that makes any difference.
Thank you!

I sympathize with you. Root canals are a hoot. And ear infections are truly a joyous event too. You should try to get your mind off your pain. To help you sleep drink some nice warm milk before bed. You should already have enough Advil in your system to see you through the night. I think you should concentrate less on the pain and more on the swelling that's causing the pain in the first place. Try an aspirin. By the way, limit aspirin dosage to less that 6 a day. Any more than that and, well, you don't want to take any more than that. If the pain isn't any better by tomorrow morning, call your dentist.
A good prescription pain reliever is Tylanol 3. It works two ways. First it makes you slightly nauseous, then it makes you very tired. No problem sleeping with that stuff. AND DON"T DRIVE while taking it either. Learned that one the hard way. Take it easy.

Don't panic. Call the dentist tomorrow and ask him/her...also ask if maybe they can prescribe you something. There are prescriptions of high doses of ibuprofen (the active ingredient in Advil), so I know it is sometimes used in higher doses than the bottle recommends. But I would not do it without checking with the doctor. It's not like you took 50 of them or something. It was a high dose for one day, but if you are an otherwise healthy person, you should be fine. Just hold off on taking anymore.
And it is totally normal to be tired after dental work. It is stressful and can wipe you out.
Get some rest and call the dentist in the AM. If you can't relax and are freaking out..the ER is always an option.

it may be a few too many to take on a regular basis, but you shouldn't die or anything. a lot of times the recommended max on the bottle is lower then the actual amount that will cause harm. but you have to be careful and try to go by the directions on the bottle. if you are still in pain after the max dosage tomorrow you might want to call the dentist. usually they can prescribe you a stronger pain killer because root canals hurt so bad. hope this helped!
