I have been using Advil Liquigels for about a week and a half to deal with tooth pain. I had been taking 6 a day (recommended max on bottle) but then day before yesterday I took 8, and then yesterday I took a total of 10. I have been prescribed 9 Advil a day before, so I didn't think this was any big deal.
Each liquigel is 200 milligrams, and from what I've found online, the maximum daily *prescription* dosage of Advil is 3200 milligrams, meaning a total of 16 Advil max in a 24 hour period. Can anyone confirm that I have this right?
I had a root canal today and have taken a total of 12. I feel ok, just very tired, but I am almost positive this is due to lack of sleep and a difficult day from the root canal, and it being late.
But, I just wanted to see if anyone knew for sure that the amt. of Advil I've taken is ok. I want to go to sleep but now I'm paranoid. I'm a big person if that makes any difference.
Thank you!

prescription strengh ibuprofen (which is what advil motrin etc are) is 800mg (4 200mg tablets) every 4 to 6 hours so you are fine. I was prescribed 800mg ibuprofen and vicodin after a surgery every 4 hours by my doctor
Best for tooth ache is 3 motrin and 1 tylenol extra strengh every 4 to 6 hours or if you get your dentist to prescribe it 3 motrin and 1 vicodin
Hope you feel better , toothaches are horrible

Well taking the maxium amount daily for a week and a half is definitely not good for you!!!!(or your liver)
Your dentist should have given you prescription for vicodin instead of using a ton of Advil liquid gels.
I think you should stop taking the Advil and call up your dentist for a prescription for something other than all that Advil!
Taking Advil for that long may also make your stomach bleed and give you ulcers!
Goodluck I hope you feel better!

Be ware that advil my personal choice as best over the counter pain killer is very hard on your stomuch. be aware of any pain there and do not maintain this regiment of daily large doses or you will suffer tremendously. and when you need it it will take more to give you any results only take it when you really need it and be sure that you often use oter pain killers like tylynol to brak the habit forming pain echo you can get from any over the counter pain killer. you know you ave a headache today take an asperin and again tommarrow you have a headche and thn the next day you have a headache and efore you relize it you have a headache every day and tatis really the result to the pills, not the stress.

Yes.
Perscription dosage is 4 800 mg pills a day.
You don't want to take that amount for a long period of time because it will affect your stomach and liver.
The effectiveness of the pills will differ if you have eaten before or not.
You need to see your dentist again. They should have given you some vicodin unless you are allergic to it or something.
It is normal for them to perscribe pain killers after a root canal.

Blog girl was the first to truly answer your question. Like she said, you're fine. But like the first answerer said, you can't continue to take that many every day, but then again, unless there's an issue, your tooth should feel 90% better in two days.
And as a comment, I think a responsible dentist would have offered you vicoden from the get-go.

Yikes. Call your dentist and get better meds before you give yourself an ulcer or do permanent damage to your liver. Yes, 3200 mgs is the maximum prescription dosage of ibuprofen in a 24 hour period, but this should be done ONLY if your doctor approves.

I don't know if you should be worried, but an easy solution to put your worry to rest (no pun intended) would be to make a quick call to the local hospital's emergency room OR poison control (both should be easy to find online) and just ask. I've had to call with far less important questions and the doctors and nurses have always been nice and helpful. Good luck!

I don't know. I'd suggest not to take more than the bottle or your doctor recommends. But when I have my period I take like 16 a day. And I'm ok so far. But like I said, I am not giving you medical advice!

You need to be careful and talk to your dentist. Too much Advil can do serious damage to your liver.
