Hmm maybe you should do some more research before you jump into getting any kind of dog. Yorkies are not accessories they are DOGS. You don't get one because it's cute without knowing anything about them... Yorkshire Terriers require DAILY (sometimes several times a day) brushings, and at least monthly grooming by a professional. They are a fiesty breed and need constant socialization with humans and other dogs, puppies are hard to train and Yorkies are notorious for being hard to potty train. Do your research before getting a dog. That way there wont be ANOTHER dog in the shelters.
http://www.ytca.org/
Read every single bit of information on that page before buying a dog. You will regret it if you don't do some research.
Ditto to Nita: Yorkies are ALREADY teacup dogs!!! The standard is 7lbs or less. Anyone selling you a "teacup" is either selling you a dog that will be 15lbs or a dog that will die in a few years.... They advertise them as teacup so uneducated people buy them thinking they are getting something special when all they're getting is an unhealthy, defective dog. PLEASE, for your sake and the dogs sake, make an educated decision about buying a puppy. Go to the breeder referral list on the club website and find a good breeder. That site will tell you ANYTHING you need to know about buying a Yorkie.

Yorkies are wonderful dogs; in fact, I have enjoyed my yorkie more than any other. But, they are not easy to take care of, and need professional grooming at least 4 times a year. Please research (start with Wikipedia) before you get your puppy. This breed is unusual in that they are toy-sized but actually bred as hunting dogs; they are hard-wired to be independent and territorial. Owners must be firm, consistent, and committed to meeting their physical and mental exercise needs, or you will end up with a little terror.
Added: "Teacup" dogs are another matter. These animals are bred by unscrupulous breeders who bred runts and tiny dogs with genetic defects for profit. These dogs are much more difficult to care for, because their size is a DEFECT, often coupled with other flaws. The medical costs for these dogs are overwhelming, and they often die early due to their physical frailty. Properly bred yorkies are very hardy animals--tremendously strong, utterly fearless, incredibly agile, smart, loyal, and affectionate.
If your yorkie is a "teacup" please re-consider supporting the horrible people who bred these dogs. Also consider the long-term financial costs, as well as the emotional cost should your dog be killed in a year because you stepped on his paw, or she jumped off your bed.

It really depends on the individual puppy, but most Yorkies from my personal experience are yippy and sometimes hard to house train, but you have to start when they are young. As for grooming, their hair is pretty easy to trim between groomings.

My Yorkie just passed away this past August at the ripe old age of 17. She was a wonderful dog. I wasn't very good at grooming her so I just kept her hair short, with no pony tails. Usually I groomed her myself but took her the groomers twice a year to have it professionally done.
They are great dogs with logs of personality. Enjoy!

they mat very easily so they are considered high maintenace.
Yorkies often have "weak" stomachs and can get upset stomachs very easily.
they are yappers and net the easiest to train.
They need a lot of attention and I've found can get a little destructive if left alone to much

well i own a teacup yorkie . she is only weight 2 pound least. sometimes its not easy to takecare of them cause theyre so small that they can be step on and even hurt themselve from jumping off higher tables, chairs, or on the sofa . even they dont eat too much foods. you gotta gave little mounts of foods . and even they can get injury from falling . and they re so lovely to have as pets but they get do get noises barking too much . but theyre usually shy or scared of larger dogs . depend what sizes they are. even you gotta be care not to have those small dogs that kind of size get hit by car, or even sometimes they arent good for little children who are still toddlers because i have little young neice and nephew who always harm my little dog and treat he laike a fake doll, lol. but theyre not really easy to take care of . you need to train it very well by getting potty train pads for peeing or poopy. if you dont want the dog make so much mess. you shouldnt never ever hit them because they have the smallest brain cell and little weaks bones . also there are all kind of yorkie breeds out there . not all yorkie is all same one breeds. i have a long hair yorkie mix a jack terrier. she has her ears down alike jack russell terrier , and rest of her she has long hairs alike her own mother . for grooming wouldnt have problem depend if youre going have youre dog keep her or his long hair . oh yeah you have to bush those kind of dogs everyday so that their coats can be shiney and neat .
