Our "brain" is our Spirit, our intellect. It is what makes us love, and feel emotion and retain true knowledge.
The soul is our body, that is the body we have in heaven and the now existent Hades, which is a prison for unbelievers until the judgment.
The Spirit is contained inside the Soul(the spiritual body, your true self). In Ecclesiastes chapter 12, we are told what happens when we "die", the spirit returns to God who gave it."
We are also told in the NT that "to be absent from THIS body is to be present with the Lord." We leave this flesh, it returns to dust and never used again. We( our true selves) return to God in Paradise.
Those who are unbelievers go to Hades, still in the presence of God, but in a cold, dark prison. (Luke 16)

Now at the judgment, the "hell" that exists then is the Lake of fire and brimstone. This is the Hebrew Gehenna, which was a dump outside of Jerusalem where all the refuse and carcasses of dead animals and humans(criminals) were thrown. It burned day and night. Jesus used this symbolism to tell us what would happen after the judgment. In revelation 20, those who do not make it and are not written in the Book of Life are thrown there along with the devil, the false prophet, the beast as well as Hades(the prison) because it will not be used anymore and death. (Revelation 20:10-15) The Greek here states that they are burned until the end of the age. The age ends as all of these are thrown in, so it only takes and instant. Gone, *poof*
It is a deep subject, much can be gleaned from studying the Word "hell" in the Bible and the original languages as there are I think about 5 different words in the original languages that the English was translated as one word. In other words; when you see the word "Hell" in the bible, it could be one of four or five words in the original languages.
yes deep subject, but I will be glad to discuss with you and answer any questions you might have.

That's a very good question, and it is also why heaven, or hell, won't be anything like anyone could possibly imagine here on earth.

Different religions and different churches have widely varying traditions and beliefs according to their own histories, and this gives people different perceptions of what heaven and hell might be like, but this is like blind men aguing over the colour of grass.

Or, indeed, people with no religion may chose to believe that heaven and hell don't exist at all, but this is like blind men believing the moon doesn't exist because they can't see it.

It is worthless to ponder over the nature of heaven or hell, as we shall never know until we get there. What is important is that we prepare ourselves for the experience, so that when we get there we are ready for it.

Those who miss Heaven and end up in hell will have a clear memory of their life... it has been said that the pain and suffering of the regret for denying God will far outweigh the other pain and sufferings of hell.

There is an example of a man who missed Heaven and had the capacity to recall his life in Luke chapter 16 of the Bible.

Revelations 21:4 tells us that God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, sorrow, crying or pain.

Remember first that this worldly flesh we have now will be changed if we will be justified before the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

But not all mem'ries will gone, only those who would make you sorrowful because it is the God that cannot lie (Titus 1:2) promised eternal happiness for those who loved Him.
Revelation 21:4
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

But not in the case of eternal damnation....
Luke 16:25
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

Interesting question, and one that has been pondered before.
The question is: Where is the mind? Is it truly in the brain, or is it not? Where is the Soul..is it the body? Or is it outside and separate from the body.
Christians believe that the mind the will and the emotions will live when the physical body is dead and gone. In other words they exist separate from the body. So you see, we will not need the "brain tissue" to think with, nor will we need our bodies to use. They are necessary only here, on planet earth.

WRONG.

sorry, but the brain is only of use in the physical realm. the brain is the capacity for the mind/soul. this is what contains all memory and thought and knowledge.

our knowledge in heaven will be in accord with God's knowledge, we'll see how He sees.

hell is the same, but it is the result of something different. psychologists tell us that we forget nothing... everything is stored within the brain and everything can be accessed if you push the right button. in hell, you'll remember everything, there is even biblical evidence for this statement. you'll remember everything because you'll have all eternity to think to yourself, that is all you can do.

Jesus in his resurrected body shows the body we have now will be transformed by God into a new spiritualized being transcending space and time, like the angels. There all knowledge and understanding will be infused by God. Jesus shows the body remains physical too by eating fish in front of his disciples afraid they were seeing a ghost or a post traumatic imagination.
Anyone in hell is there only as a result of their own free will to reject God and his love. As God respects free will he will not force himself or his love on anyone. It must be freely chosen, freely accepted. This is why no one can be forced to convert. That is impossible because faith and love must be freely chosen freely given by its nature.

the ones in hell died with the sinful nature, the ones in heaven were delivered from sinful nature. If we took our minds then we take our unclean flesh with us, and in Gods eyes no flesh is justified. If you allow Jesus to cleanse you then when you get to heaven you will know total and perfect peace.
