A focus on gathering all knowledge available on who your competing against and what you need to know in your field of expertise. Books on competitive people's lives, or on successful business practices could also help, along with what ever knowledge one can get on the internet. One has to get the mindset of someone fighting for survival, but be willing to work in cooperation with others for mutual benefit, with care to make sure one picks good associates.
