i had a really bad cold about a week ago and towards the end when it was starting to go away my ear started hurting everytime i yawned. i went to the doctor yesterday and they said they couldnt find anything but they gave me pills for it. my mom says it can be from the cold i had, that it can be sinusitis. should i go check with an ear doctor to be sure and what could it be?

i still have a cold so im thinking that could be it.
oh and i keep telling my mom to get me one of those vicks vaporizers for my cold...and cause i always wanted to try one of those things =) do you think that would help my cold and then my ear problem would go away?

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. I get this EVERY TIME I have a cold.

What happens is when you get a sinus infection (sinusitis) the pressure builds, and some of the built up mucus in your sinus cavity is pushed into your ears. This, at least, is what I've been explained by my doctor.

At the same time this happens to me, I also usually get an ulcer in the back of my mouth on the same side of the painful ear.

It lasts about 4-5 days and is very painful. You need to take STRONG antibiotics for your sinusitis and your ear ache (and maybe the ulcer you'll develop) will follow suit as it disappears.

If you can help it, the next time you get a cold don't take any medication for it. By allowing your nose to run as much as it needs to, rather than drying it up, more of the bacteria will be expelled from your sinuses, making it less likely you'll get sinusitis - and that nasty ear ache.

Oh - and don't lay on your side at night! Lay on your back until your ear ache subsides, and a humidifier would be helpful during your sleep.

GOOD LUCK!

I wouldnt worry too much about it. If you recently had a cold, sore throat, etc... you're probably still a little swollen in the back of your throat from post nasal drip... etc. The tubes that drain out of your ears are basically more or less in the back of your throat, so when you're sick and swollen, they get pressed on, and can mimic that effects of an ear infection. Don't waste your time going to an ear doctor... it will clear up. Medications like Motrin will help if it's really bothering you.

That has happened to me before and it went away on it's own. It may be an ear infection.
Keep your ears clean and go to the doctor again if it's really bothersome!

you probably have congestion (and possible infection) in your Eustachian Tube--which connects the ear and throat. You may hear a "click" whenever you swallow as it tries to equalize the pressure, and the congestion is what is preventing the equalization and causing your discomfort. Antibiotic should clear up the infection and re-open the Tube and stop the pain and discomfort.

in my opinion, it will help you...i have that one that you want to try, and it's working pretty good(i also happened to have a cold)...you should try it, i'm not sure if it will help you with your ear problem but i'm sure that it will ease the pain and struggle of not being able to breathe properly...=)PEACE OUT!

I suggest you consult another physician; possibly an eye, ear, nose, and throat specialist.

Yes cold causes low pressure and the ear to become blocked. I think the best remedy is get enough rest, take your medicine, and get over the cold.
Your body is weak. Take some warm chocolate or milk helps.
