Depends on which source you want your answer concluded. If from the Bible, there lies a contradiction between books, due to stages of development and present time Events. God said, "Go forth, be fruitful and multiply". and that "For this reason a man will leave his family and unite himself with a woman". Yet, Paul encourages those not married to stay single and those widowed not to obtain another spouse.

It seems to me that marriage is more of a Society demand then it is a commandment.

Dreads hit it on the head. Nope, God knows that everyone wouldn't have the desire to get married. As a matter of fact, Paul said that it would be better not to get married, however, to not succumb to temptation, God has ordained marriage. Don't feel pressured to get married, but understand that those who aren't to be married are simply meant to share that freedom with God.

No, everyone is not commanded to get married.

You're right though, that people do seem to think it is a requirement!

No, He wants both married and single people in the world... they can be used in different ways, for different purposes.. People think it is a life requirement because they are afraid/insecure and they want everyone to be paired off & happy...

If you are religious, of course you would believe that. Religion proclaims marriage, as the only way to go!
If you are not religious, and don't believe in all that claptrap, you don't need marriage, and you don't need their other rules, either!

It's not. For a select few, you get to be celibate and give all your energy to God.

For the rest of us, that's too hard and we burn in our lusts, so we are given to marriage.

Dunno or care.

Please don't generalise - I've never been married and I've never thought it was "a life requirement".
I'm far too self-centred and selfish to share my life with any ONE person and my ego never felt the need to procreate because I'm far too self-centred and selfish.

Paul actually said that if anyone could go without it, it would be better if he didn't marry.
