My brother has been depressed lately and I don't know why. He's made suicidal comments such as, "Maybe I won't be here tomorrow." He is 19 years old. My parents don't seem to care; they think he's just being silly. I'm so worried and scared. I don't know what to do. I feel so alone. Please help me.

Anyone who is demonstrating drastic changes in behavior, depression and threats of suicide should be taken seriously. Try to convince your parents to at least take him to a medical doctor for a checkup, it could be that an antidepressant could have a tremendous effect. Look Online for information about teen suicide and the warning signs, and copy some information for your parents. Call a suicide hotline that you can find in the phone book and tell them about your concerns, they may be able to provide guidance and resources in your community.

Right now he needs to see you worried and fussing over him. It is okay for a while. He will have time to think as you keep him feeling someone cares. He won't do suicide as it requires severe depression and collapse of language and logic.
