Any antacid will give fairly rapid, but sometimes brief relief of symptoms. If you are getting troubled chronically see your GP so that he can arrange an ulcer bug test for helicobacter pylorrii. If this is positive a course of triple therapy may remove your symptoms permanently.

If the test is negative, but your symptoms persist, they may be due to reflux, if this is the case either H2 blockers like Tagamet or PPIs such as Losec, will be more effective than simple antacids.

If you've been suffering from this problem for a while then ask your doctor to do a test for Helicobacter Pylori. It's a bacteria which can infect the stomach and cause excess acid and ulcers. It's easily treated by a course of antibiotics. HP can be a precursor to stomach cancer so it's worth getting your problem investigated.

I once did a test to see which antacid works the best under conditions that were most suited to our internal ones. I tested rennies, gaviscon and tums. Gaviscon worked best and fastest, then rennies then tums. So thats my guide, if you've got bad indigestiion and want to get rid of it fast, use gaviscon.
