Should we just let immigrant flow in whenever they want, should we be tough and have quotas, or something in-between?

1. Have all non immigrants report to Immigration service about the end of their visa to prove their latest status. For example, if F1 is ending the course, they should provide proof of renewal of status or change of status. This way, Immigration can ensure the current status is being maintained. And Nonimmigrant will have accountability.
2. Change of address law should be striclty enforced. People move and it is difficult for immigration to keep track.
3. Require sponsors of affidavit of support to report to Immigration whether the person they sponosored has complied with the law or not. For example, if I sponsor my mom for visit and send her affidavit of support and she is given 3 months to stay, I should report to Immigration at the end of 3 months and report whether she has gone back or not. If she does not, I should be held liable. This way people are held accountable.
4. Allow green card for spouses and children of green card holders. This will ensure family unity and people won't have to lie and adopt illegal means.
5. Enforce laws against employers regarding illegal employment. There are plenty of laws on books but DOL is understaffed. My understanding is only less than 5% of people are taken action against.
6. Build border for once and all and deport people from the border. No need to go before the judge.

I think anyone who wants to work and pay taxes and contribute to society should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S.

Here is my plan. Sell citizenship to the U.S. for $100,000 That would generate a huge cash influx to save all sorts of programs in the government and help get us out of the Deep debt we are in.
Then set up a different program that allows anyone to apply for an "immigrant finance number" This number would act like a SSN# but instead of funds going to SS they would go to pay for their $100,000 entry fee. Once the fee is met then they become citizens and get a SSN#. Then they would be eligible for benefits that other citzens get.
In order for this to work, we need to crack down on "illegals" since it will be easy to obtain the "immigrant finance number". They would pay taxes and invest in their citizenship additional to their taxes base off their income.
You then could stipulate a time frame in which they need to contribute their $100,000. lets say vested at 5% rate of return.
So someone could just pay the fee (if wealthy) or pay monthly with a return of 5%. (Immigrant A pays $100,000 immediately gets citizenship, Immigrant B contributes $400 per month gets citizenship in 15 years.)
This plan would bring in tons of money to the U.S. instead of costing the U.S. tons of money to build a fence and police it.
Part of it then could be used to crack down on employers who hired people here illegally. Then again it would be easy to get the "immigrant finance number" so their shouldn't be a reason why people wouldn't have it. Overnight their would be 20 million more tax payers, and people contributing to their citizenship.
It would work, of course the numbers i said would need some evaluation but the plan itslef I feel is solid

lets see $100,000 x 20,000,000 illegals = $20,000,000,000,000 + taxes they pay.
$20 trillion dollars. Nice.

I'm sure I will get negatives placed on this, because most people think the answer to the problem is more laws and tougher penalties for breaking the law. Well people kill people and there is the death penalty that obviously doesn't stop it from happening. People break laws, incurring fines is great but it still doesn't solve the problem. It just creates a bigger more beaurecratic government, which is the main part of the problem.

I go for three phase plan.

First temporary worker permits that allow a person to come in for 6 months. That permit is renewable it the local police station they run a quick check for outstanding warrants and past crimes data base also show if taxes where paid. If any problems show up then automatic deportation. If cleared then its renew for another six months. Impose a small fee $50 or less to cover the costs. After five years they are given the choose applying for perminet residency and allowed to bring 3 family members plus kids to live here provided they pass a basic verbal English test, or go back to their home country. After 15 years and no criminal record and taxes are paid they are giving the option of full citizenship.

Second part close the boarders hard(the only people coming across illegally are drug runners and other criminals) shoot orders are given.

Third phase is employer crack down hiring an illegal worker cost the employer $10,000 fine per worker for the first worker doubling for each offense. Pays its own costs and then some.

Build a fence then enforce the laws against employing them. When an employer is caught hiring illegals they should be treated like drug dealers; long prison sentences and their property confiscated. I am sure when A Swift executive goes to prison for 30 years and Excel loses one of their beef plants, the immigration issue will magically take care of itself.

I believe the sentences should be harder on employers who hire illegals than on drug dealers. After all; who is harming the country more, them or some schmo dealing a little grass?

After a year we can sit back and actually analyze how many immigrants we actually need, then allow only those people that we want in.

To follow, and enforce all the laws already written, and put into law for a change. That includes nailing the Employers who hire the illegals. The Illegals for being here illegally. And the worthless American government Reps and Presidents who dance around the mandates of the American people every time they want to include amnesties. As well as the laws they put on the books.

regrettably, i will have faith it. those criminals care no longer something approximately our rules and that they could desire to no longer be right here! All 30+ million illegals, the place ever the come from, are breaking our rules. I heard a sparkling estimate of the style of illegals (can not keep in mind the good source). They suggested there are approximately 38 million illegals. Our stupid government nevertheless claims 7 to 12 million (supposedly 2005 figures). Do they actually think of that we are that stupid to think of the numbers do no longer flow up each and every day!

IMMEDIATELY CEASE ANY AND ALL IMMIGRATION FOR A PERIOD OF NOT LESS THAN 10 (TEN) YEARS.

During that ten years period start gathering up ALL ILLEGAL INVADERS that are in this country and send them back to their home country. Fine their home country $50,000 per person per year that they sere here ILELGALLY. Give that country 1 year to pay the debt back to the US, if they do not, File Suit against that government and then start a siezure of any and all assets that country has until the debt has been repaid.

This is what I would do.

We should first stop the influx. Next - concern our
national selves with illegals who are already here.

Just letting them stay and fall-in-line for immigration with temporary permission - if employed and/or in a self-supporting family is a form of amnesty and is unfair to legal applicants.

An agonizing reappraisal of our foreign policy concerning illegal 'guests' needs to be tackled soonest.

*sigh*.....i dont know why people make this more complicated than what it truly is. no need to make more knots on the big knot we already have to unravel!

it just takes some logic and a little bit of common sense......take out all the anti-american-pro-illegal politicians out, stop ALL, ALL the benefits (including especially the health care and anchor baby benefits ), get the companies who hire illegals where it hurts, and it'll work wonders!! and, it would also work to actually enforce our existing laws and to not allow any anti-american politician to bend them!

then, America will survive the aftermath (meaning, it will once again be proved that illlegal criminals are not needed in order for our country to stay strong and to be the greatest as it has always meant to be).

Start enforcing ALL US immigration laws and begin handing out penalties more commensurate with federal law violations. Such light penalties are routinely handed out that people currently actually think that federal immigration violations are civil offenses rather than the felonies that they actually are.
