It's at least a good hour walk. If you start at Prince Street, it's best to take the 1 subway to MSG. Unless it's sunny outside and unless you're in good shape, it's not worth the walk.

madison square garden is about 1.75 miles from the intersection of houston st and broadway.....so depending on how fast you walk, what route you take, etc, it would probably take about 40 minutes to walk there. or, you could spend $2 per person and take the subway. take the N train from the Herald Sq Station (about 2 blocks away from madison sq garden) downtown to the prince street stop.

Subway-- about 6-8 mins once you get on the train.

Taxi-- probably 10 mins.

Walking-- maybe 30 mins as long as you are not stopping to much. Its about 1-2 miles away.
