If the child has no dirty diaper, has been fed, and is not ill, there is no problems with the crying. It is usually to get the parents to pick the child up. Just be sure that the child is safe, and has been otherwise taken care of.

At one and a half months old infants do not cry to be picked up they cry to have their needs met. First check all of the obvious things, diaper, feeding, burping, temperature, swaddling, etc. If crying persists consult physician or call an after hours care hotline. Some methods suggest "crying it out, " but not prior to six months of age. Even with this method the baby is not left to cry for more than five minutes at a time. Don't ignore your instincts.

I cried the first 3 years of my life..
nothing was wrong with me.. everything was fine.. I apparently just enjoyed hearing myself scream.
as long as the baby is fed, dry, and healthy, then crying will not hurt him or her.
Trying to hold the baby every moment of the day (because that is usually what extra crying is for) will make for a very difficult few years for the parent.
and my niece is just shy of 2 months old.. and she would cry if I stopped walking with her.. I'd still be holding her, just not walking. that went on for about 3 hours.. then she got fed (my sis is breastfeeding, so it's every 3 hours).... then she wanted to walk again..
Even adults can't do that.. sometimes you have to let them cry

crying at that young age is a message that something isn't right. Could be gas, stomach cramps, colic.....but it IS something.
He's too young to be crying to get attention just for the sake of attention.
Tell his father to stop learning parenting from the internet. Every fool can become an expert on the net. That exercise notion is crap

I would check and see if thay are wet. Thay might need some food. I would not let my child cry like that. If my child did this allot i would call my doctor because there might be some thing else going on.
