Neither format will win.Consumers simply are not ready for a new high definition DVD format if it isn't spelled out simply and delivered in a manner that isn't confusing or easily mistaken for existing formats.DVD would have to be replaced. HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc are not being positioned as replacements to DVD,they are simply an option - and one that is being largely ignored by the public despite millions of dollars being spent on competitive marketing. It's too much ,too fast, and with too little gain.

nicely toshiba has suggested confident that blu ray is a extra effective format and has stopped hd dvd production. yet that doesnt meen blu ray has gained cuz a super sort of companys oppose blu ray and nevertheless do. means some companys are going to make a distinctive format. Toshiba has additionally released a on an identical time as lower back that if it lost the format warfare they are going to make yet another format. So confident blu ray has gained the format warfare for now. A 300 and sixty 5 days to 2 years is the estiemated time of ways long blu ray on an identical time as reign king till yet another format rises they try this **** every time.

It has been suggested that since Blu-Ray can definitely be putting more data into a single disc that movies will eventually be won out to Blu-Ray.

However since the cheaper manufacturing costs of a HD-DVD and the fact that an HD-DVD burner can also burn CD's and DVD's very easily by just tweaking the laser frequency or color or something it HD-DVD will be more widespread in the Computer Industry and its applications.

Blu-Ray burners are hard to come by and expensive to manufacture at the moment. Even the media is expensive. And the fact that Blu-Ray burners won't be able to burn CD's and DVD's - this fact may drive it away from the Computer Industry.

Also I've heard that the next leap in visual quality in movies will not be from more resolution as it seems that u start seeing the grain and scratches on the actual recorded film when you do...the next big thing as far as visual quality is from 60hz to 120hz.. it has something to do with 3:5 pull down going to 5:5.. i don't know what that is... hope this helps.

Probably neither.

Blu-ray and HD DVD are niche formats that will be supported by a minority of consumers who can benefit from and afford to pay the premium price required for the hardware and software. Most consumers will -- for a whole host of reasons -- simply stick with VHS and DVD as physical media.

In reality consumers have many options and will, overall, use all of them to varying degrees. Some will use none, some specific formats and some several (as we do today ... most homes have a TV, MP3 player, CD/DVD player, etc). The day of physical media (tapes, disks) is ending. It will take time and probably never completely disappear, but the predominant mechanism for delivery of movies in most households will eventually be Video on Demand (VOD) and down-loadable movies.

Within this paradigm HD DVD and Blu-ray will both coexist and consumers who want to use physical media will use multi-format (i.e. HD DVD, Blu-ray, DVD, CD and others) players to access whatever disks they want.
