I wish I knew.

It's so silly - your license plate is not private. It's there to identify you. Its purpose is to violate your privacy. It's silly to think you can have privacy with regards to your license plate.

I'm sure there's some crime that could be committed with my tag number, but I don't know what it is, and I don't see how I'm protected when I'm driving down the road.

Privacy. No the plate itself is not private, it's hanging out there in public. However, the information related to that plate IS private. Some people do have ways of finding out that private information from car tags.

so ppl can find the car and therefore the people. for example, if on the news they were doing a story about a man accused of like a sexual crime and they didnt blur out his license plate when showing a clip of his house, people can find out whos car it is and al of his info and go on a man hunt of some kind.

in short, its called privacy

i don't be attentive to the situation interior the U. S. because of the fact the plate device is distinctive, yet pretend license plates are all too difficulty-unfastened interior the united kingdom. people hit upon a registration quantity for the ideal make/kind/colour, they get pretend plates made and the genuine proprietor gets rushing tickets and parking tickets from places he has in no way been to in his existence. each so often the genuine proprietor gets a circulate to from the police approximately collisions he wasn't in touch in. that may not a reliable thought to reveal your registration code on the information superhighway, in case some c*nt copies it.

Probably for kinda the same reason as to why they have to make up those fake 555-#### phone numbers on shows...someone out there would try to call it, or in license plates they would try to figure out the owners, etc. For privacy reasons.

Privacy. License plate numbers can be easily traced by people who are up to no good.

Probably because you can't try to track this car and that it's just more secure.
