Right now, I'm kind of snowed in. But I wanted to start walking a little bit every day. Does walking circles in my room provide the same results walking on a street would (doing it for the same amount of time)?

Ha, ha, yes, but it's so boring.

I have a pedometer, and whenever I'm iced or snowed in, I clip it on and walk around my living room to 10000 paces. It still works, don't worry, you just get very bored after a while... ;-)

Walking circles will get you there but you might be a bit dizzy when you arrive! Any walking is good. Yours will get a bit boring though so you may want to try walking in place. You can watch a good movie or (if you like) read a good book! OR you can shut your bedroom door, put some music on and dance! Your legs are still moving so it counts and you are really burning more calories and still getting good exercise!!

Ummm........how far you walk is the main factor.

How fast doesn't matter. If you walk the same distance as you run then you use the same amount of energy.

On the street you may have hills as well which require more energy and exercise different muscles (and can increase your heart rate).

The moral of the story is that exercise should be taken regularly. Do lots of different things and have fun (put on some music and dance if you have to)

No, it does not. When you walk outside, the wind provides an additional resistance. Furthermore, when it is cold outside, you will burn a lot more calories, up to twice as much, since your body needs to burn fat to maintain its temperature. Winter is a prefect time to walk outside.

Walking in your room in circles is really a lame idea no offence. If you want to get yourself in shape, that's not how you do it. Go to a gym, and eat non-processed foods.

i think walking on the street would provide more obsticles so you would walk more. i think if you walked in your room maybe double the time or add some more time to it to get the same result
