I hope you have at least read the work of Martin Luther before you answer. Did he believe in the veneration of Mary?

And incidentally, veneration and worship are completely different things.

According to the interwebs, he said "The veneration of Mary is inscribed in the very depths of the human heart."

Yep. Martin Luther broke from the Catholic Church for fairly plenty 2 motives. one million. the advertising of indulgences, which has for the reason that been solved (there are nevertheless indulgences like there has consistently been, yet they do no longer seem to be bought) 2. The books of the bible - and not only the apocrypha/deuterocanon. He needed Revelations and James out too. no longer a lot of human beings quite knew this. he's credited with doing so plenty greater advantageous than he actual did. (like Paul Revere, who chickened out and in no way even finished the "hour of darkness journey")

Martin Luther wasn't trying to start a new religion -- he was trying to reform the religion he believed in. So from that view point, yes, he did believe in the veneration of Mary.

I agree with scotgirl and dude. Yet, I never understood why the need to concoct such myths as the perpetual virginity of Mary given the fact she had children other than Jesus....as if sex with joseph was dishonorable...

I'm not sure...he never attacked the issue in his writings (or the ones I've read) so I don't think he had too big a problem with it. As a Lutheran, I can tell you in the modern Lutheran church, Mary isn't "venerated" as she is in the Catholic Church (we don't ask for her to intercede on our behalf or anything) but she is highly respected. I think he was probably okay with it.

Most Christians love Mary but many don't pray to her. What ever ten letter words you want to use. A rose by any other name is still a rose.
