Powerpoint has a structure. When you add in your own text boxes it doesn't follow this structure.

The animations schemes follow the structure.

Basically, Powerpoint is designed to be used by someone who cares about the content but not the how.

So the best way is to add in the information use the slide layouts that powerpoint provides. Then you can change themes and animation schemese without any hassle.

If you want have to create one slide that breaks the rules then you can use the custom animations.

PS: I have been teaching and using very sophisticated powerpoint for years. If you use the layouts and methods provided by Powerpoint changing the whole presenation is easy, once you play around with individual slides, backgrounds, colours and add your own elements you have to change each slide manually.
