Per a previous answer it sounds like sleep apnia. Given the apparent stress level and without knowing more, it sounds like there may be a component of PTSD which in and of itself can contribute to sleep apnia. Get to a sleep Dr. and some good? mental health help if he has any history of trauma/stress.

snores alot!? does he grind his teeth too? get up to go to the restroom in the middle of the night more than once?
sounds like sleep apnea! he is actually oxygen deprived by the snoring. he could die from this,...
get him a sleep study as soon as possible!!!
i had those kind of symptoms, felt tired most of the time, fell asleep while driving & at work,..... i now sleep with a bi-pap breathing machine, my blood oxygen went from 67% to 96%, i have great energy, sleep through the night, no more thrashing and gnashing etc.
