My favorite song to listen to is "riders on the Storm" by the doors. But cool jazz works for me as well. Generally I am skiing the deep stuff. When skiing with the helicopter service, the guides generally like your to be able to hear them in case of emergencys. But there is nothing like getting a great face shot while listening to your favorite tune. Its just what ever you like!!!

I only listen when I'm skiing alone and riding the chair by myself. I have a pet peeve about people who shove the earbud from their MP3 in thier ear and never even say hello to you on the chair. I don't want your life story, but it's pretty freakin' rude to just sit there with your iPod or Bluetooth going.
OK...now that that's off my chest:
When I used to race I would listen to Zeppelin or AC/DC BEFORE my runs and get all pumped up. No point in playing anything when you are gonna be done with the run before the song is 1/2 over.
Nowadays I just put the MP3 on shuffle. If I'm JSA I just listen to something mellow like Jimmy Buffet, Wilco, Whiskeytown, Uncle Tupelo, or (sometimes) the Dead. I never got into Phish...even after 6 years skiing in VT.
If I'm skiing bumps or just want to get a good groove on I listen to the Beastie Boys.
Oh yeah...don't be farting around with your phone or iPod when you are about to get on the chair...pay attention to the liftie. If I had a dollar for everyone who I've seen get smacked by the chair because they were being a dumbass while boarding I could go buy a new iPod myself.

I have a neat helmet that has speakers in it. It's pretty nice since you can also hear what people are saying and you can adjust the volume without getting out the iPod. I personally only use it when I'm skiing alone and I usually just have a big playlist of punk, rock, and rap that I shuffle with.
I also agree that it's pretty rude to use them on chairlifts for the most part... I typically just turn it down to the minimum when I'm on the chair and amp it up once I get off.

Willie couldn't be more right about this one
I always have my ipod with me when I'm skiing but come on people looking at the display for your favorite tune when the chair is about to bump your legs is just dumb...I don't care if some dumbass gets hurt but you're holding up the line when they have to stop the lift.
I like listening to something mellow when I'm on a glade like snow patrol or stonesour. Chilli peppers when I'm in the bumps

Well, I snowboard but yeah I listen to music while doing it. Its really great. It gives me like an eneregy boost and its nice to listen to when you're going up a long boring quiet lift ride. I like to listen to more of my hardxcore stuff like Marilyn Manson and Slipknot...
