Mayan calendar ends then. That's only natural since they predicted that another culture would come and provide an updated calendar based on other ways to slice and dice the year.
Once they predicted the other calendar (the Sports Illustrated calendar) was on its way, they just weren't interested in doing any more.
It wasn't a prediction the world would end, just that boring calendars would end.

According to the Mayan calender (which is the MOST accurate calender ever made, btw) the world will end or change drastically on December 23, 2012.
Of course we can't know if anything will happen then. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose, haha.
Oh and here's a link you can look at if you care to:

People for years have been predicting the end of time.. but none of it have come true.
The 2012.. is when the Mayan calender ends. So people assume that the world ends all together on that year.

It is the end of the age of Pisces and the beginning of the age of Aquaries. Jesus' role as 'sun god' will come to an end then and a new 2012 year era will begin. And as the world changed in the dawn of the Pisces era, the world will change in 2012. How it will change is unknown.

People have been predicting when God is returning to the earth for thousands of years. But the Holy Bible says that not even the Angels know the time. But everyone everywhere will know when that time has come.

People always believe the Lord is coming back on any date that has a doomsday connection, or because some Bible scholar is bold enough to say he knows when.
The bible makes it perfectly clear as you know, that no one knows when it will be. God Bless

2012 has a lot of speculation surrounding it. i haven't heard anything relating that year to the christian god (i assume that's what you mean by "Lord"). most of it has to do with the mayan calendar or the zodiacal long count, also called the precession of the equinoxes

It's because the Mayan calender ends, or at least one of their ages ends then. Ironic that Christians are using a human sacrificing civilization's primitive calendar to predict the return of Christ.
