Connecting 300 ohm to 70 ohm Coax (TV)?

Question

I've recently attempted connecting two 300 ohm wires to a balun which converts to 70 ohm coax. Do the wires need to pair specifically? Is there any danger if they're connected the wrong way?

Cheers TV guy! Once twisted together do the wired pair need to be separated slightly? I understand that the picture would be bad if both signals came into contact with each other. Is there a danger of short circuiting or overheating?
