Which Marine bases are going to be gone soon? Which bases are going to stay? When are they going to start moving Marines to Guam?

The final details haven't been worked out as yet. But, the earliest any move could happen is 2011. It will take that long to build the new bases in Guam. And the Japanese government is questioning the high cost of doing so. If it ever does happen, it looks like eight thousand members of III MEF will move. That should clean out most of Camp Hansen and a good part of Camp Kinser as well. And it also hinges on moving MCAS Futenma to a new man-made island in Oura Bay next to Camp Schwab and Henoko. I've been keeping up somewhat using the link below. It gives news of Okinawa.
