My goal is to lose body fat and build muscle. Id rather lose the fat and then try to put on some muscle mass. I currently workout six days a week, 3 of those days, i do two a-days. Is it optimal to do my cardio before my strength training or after. My goal is to lose body fat, and maintain muscle mass or increase muscle mass. Thank you.

I do my cardio first, then lift weights. But make sure you lift light to a medium amount of weight with more reps and sets.

You should not eat less then 1 hour before your workout prefably bout 1.5-2 hours before. And the food you eat should consist of slow digesting carbs or any other carbs and heeps of protien. Eating a small protien snack 15min before a workout is a must like almonds, little yoghurt or bar. For best results do cardio after a workout so you use your fat as energy cause you already used all you carbs. Or early in the mornin after drinking plenty of water. If you want to prevent the breakdown of muscle tissue, instead of doing long steady cardio sesh. Do a sprint cardio sesh, such as warm up 1-3min, then sprint on what ever it is bike, treadmill, rower, for like 30 min then slow down for 30-1min then sprint again. Repeat that, should be good.

I've done a lot of reading on the subject and most say do cardio first, as opposed to in between strength training sets or after your strength training. I prefer it before my strength training b/c it's a great warm up, gets the heart pumping, and I feel ready for my s.t. session. Some say concentrate on cardio for weight loss, while again, others say do both. If you strength train you are either going to work your muscles to maintain or build muscle. The more muscle you work/build the more fat you will burn. Good luck with the workouts.

You should warm up with about 10 or 15 mins of cardio. Then do your strength training. Then after that I would do my cardio for the day. You do not want to deplete your body before you lift. It defeats the purpose.
