Da Ent Wife: But sin taxes aren't about raising money for the government, they're about improving society's morals, right?

... right?...

Da Ent Wife: I tend to agree... And I have yet to see any good evidence that "sin taxes" actually change behavior. For that matter, I don't think it's inside the scope of government to coerce people's personal behavior.

No. But sweetie tell me honestly, what would make more money for the state, a sin tax on alcohol and smokes or a sin tax on textbooks and calculators? Be honest now.

No, quite frankly. I mean let's be honest here. If i were trying to improve your morals then sex outside of marriage would be illegal, wouldn't it? I'm feeling entirely too Machiavellian tonight, the government just wants to find a way into your pocketbook, bottom line. If they can use Christian morals to do so, then they will. I'm not justifying it, mind you, I think sin taxes are silly, I'm just being honest here.

EDIT - Well then, you've just made my point, haven't you? Sin taxes have nothing to do with changing your behavior and all about getting money from you. I rest my case. (Sin taxes are still silly in my opinion).

Having been to Texas a lot, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm pretty sure they have them on grammar books. Have you ever heard some of those people speak?
