The school is as follows:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, admission requirements for most schools is a 3.25 or better, from personal experience I can tell you my class lost over 50% of the students to drop out or failure before graduation, and my wifes program at a different school lost approximately 50% to drop or failure before graduation.
Then you must pass the NCLEX-RN to be eligible for licensure as an RN in your state.
Then you must work and have 2 years of critical care experience(ICU, CCU, some schools will accept ER, OR and Recovery Room).
You must also be BLS, ACLS and PALS certified for admission to most schools
Most Anesthesia Nursing Graduate Programs require a GPA of 3.5 or better (most accept less than one of five applicants) The program is 28 months long and very difficult, though most people who can get through the admission process actually make it through the programs.
The you are eligible to sit for the certification boards.
The job varies by location. Unlike many professsions, nurse anesthetist tend to make higher salaries in more rural areas with fewer anesthesiologist for competition. The average day for most starts at 6:30 am with preparation in the anesthesia department then interviewing and counseling the first patient by 7am. The patient is in the operating room before 7:20 am and given some form of medication to relax them. They are then given the chosen form of anesthesia. This could be general anesthesia where the patient is placed into a controlled sleep, or a regional anesthesia where a select portion of the body is anesthetized using a form of local anesthetic. The day normally goes until approximately 4pm with repeated cases through the day.
It is often described as 1 hour of boredom follwed by 15 minutes of heart-wrenching terror as the patient is brought out of anesthesia.
Most anesthetist enjoy their work.
The salary is usually quite good by comparrison to most professions. In this city they average between $100,000 and $300,000 per year, and this is a major city, some make more than the average for this city.

I know 1 person who was going through school, and have met 2 others working in the field. They seemed to have a "tough" personality... I'm guessing there are easier courses, but the pay is good... so maybe it evens out

First off, the school is hard to get into. Second off, your course work will be very hard. It's not something that is taken lightly! Every job is probably different, depending on the setting, shift, and caseload.
