I really dont wanna fork out the 125 to replace it if all it is, is a clogged pipe or something, does anyone know how i could go about it myself to diagnose the problem before i replace it? what could have caused this? its been running fine for a long time now, and i cant think of anything tht would cause it to do that.

$125 sounds cheep enough. Almost always is carboned up EGR tube if the Vacuum hoses are good and EGR & BPT valve functions. The idle air control valve gets removed and the tube from the egr valve to the intake manifold removed and cleaned out and the inlet to the intake manifold cleared. Air flow meter and intake boot needs to come off and it is about 2 hours to do that work. Almost never replacing the EGR valve fixes the carbon build up.

A bad egr valve should almost always kick check engine light
on. If it is most part stores will hook up a diagnostic reader for free if you ask. I know advanced auto parts does for sure.
EGR mean Exhaust Gas Recirculation It helps burn off any excess fumes for maxium gas mileage. The valve can get a carbon buildup over time from using low grade gas or never servicing the fuel system. Try using a fuel cleaner or have the fuel system intake cleaning service done most lube shops offer for around 50 bucks . U can also remove the valve and clean it with carbuerator cleaner if it's real bad just be careful of the electrical hookup on the valve. It's not really imperative to fix it unless it's causing the motor to stall or something. I've seen many vehicles run for years with no more than a little loss of gas mileage. 10+ yr mechanic
