If you don't want to go to Iraq, stay out of the military. Every branch and every member is deployable. This is the United States military, not somewhere to "play" military. If you are a pilot, you will deploy.

The Air Force. Why, because you are not as limited as to what you can train to fly.
In the Navy, your only choices are either F/A-18, C-130, C-9, COD, S-3, E-2C Hawkeye, UH-46, P-3 and two others.
If you fly chase planes for the Navy, add: A-7, F-4, F-8 and possibly A-4
The Air Force: C-5A, C-17, C-130, AC-130, KC-130, RC-130, C-9, C-141, KC-135, F-15D & E, UH-46, F-16, F-117, A-10, C-21, B-1, B-52, B-2, RC-135, E-4, and Air Force One is a 747 or 707 (in reserve) and about a half dozen others.
If you fly chase planes for the AF, add: F-5, F-4, A-7
I don't know where riddleme... gets his information from but he sure is wrong.

I'm not going to tell you what branch of the military to join!! But if you don't want to be deployed than you may not want to join. I will tell you this, the navy has squadrons called rag squadrons. They stay on shore and do not go on boats but it is mainly new pilots in those squadrons. If you decide to go navy, then i will more than likely talk to you over the air at some point in your career because I'm a air traffic controller. good luck with your choice!! But you will eventually have to go over seas.
ps. there is also p-3 pilots and also c9 pilots that don't deploy to Iraq as well.

If your a pilot your going to be deployed. I assume that the air force would be better because they specialize in air combat. I don't know which would be safer.

Navy is the way to go. My boyfriend is in the Navy and they get amazing benefits and amazing pay. He works a nice office job on the base and doesn't have to be out on a ship or anything! He just does a bunch of paper work and approves peoples vacation time and stuff. It's like a regular 9-5 job, the Navy pays for him to live out in town in an apartment, and you don't have to go to places like Iraq, or Afghanistan. They have 2 large bases out of San Diego and Norfolk, Virginia, so you could even have a good chance of staying in the US.

The Navy will give you the best of everything. If you are joining the military and not wanting to be deployed to a combat zone then your looking in the wrong line of business. The Navy has the best aviation. Even more aircraft than the AF.

If you do not want to go to war, you might want to just go to TWA or some other airline and find out how to become a pilot.
