MD answer
A clean catch urine specimen form a normal person is sterile. "Hitting the air" does not contaminate urine. Bouncing around the labia in a female picks up normal mucosal and skin bacterial or fungal flora
Unless someone has a urinary tract infection, urine cultures will not show any growth of microorganisms. So, YES, normal urine is sterile - - and so is blood.
I have never minded getting urine or blood on me in the course of medical work.
[Of course you do not want to get a needle stick with blood due to viral elements such as retroviruses or hepatitis viruses. Blood to blood transmission is risky for HIV and hepatitis but not for the usual bacterial and fungal organisms.]

Human urine is sterile as long as it is contained in an un-infected bladder. As soon as it leaves the bladder, it is no longer sterile. The urethra and urethral opening contain plenty of bacteria.

In a "normal" human, the urine in the bladder has no bacteria but may contain viruses and the eggs of certain parasites. Once it passes through the urethra it can pick-up bacteria growing there or on the outside.

Not very sterile, though it helps when attacking poisons in the body, like from urchins for example.
