Ive worked with many internet providors. Unix, Linux, Windows (and Mac) all have pros and cons as far as servers go. I do recommend windows as a server IF
A) many people need to access it (such as all of the customer support people)
B) they are all windows people and want the menu interface
C) if the machine is going to do one specific thing
Linux I recommend IF
A) they want to use an old hand-me-down windows machine to become a powerful server (linux runs alot of power on much less hardware than windows does)
B) they want to run many applications. Linux is particularly good at having different programs talk to each other. Its easy to interface anything with any choice of mail program instead of windows which tends to build things like mail into each program
C) they are willing to give up some of the security in order to lay with more new toys
I recommend Unix IF
A) they want to run a really large machine doing a really large job
B) if the job is one of the old standard internet things
C) they want to set up the machine and basically forget its there for a couple of years without having to maintain it
Part of the answer is like this. I have 2 linux servers I run out of my house. They are both on machines that I would have retired to the closet because they couldnt run the latest greatest windows games. And each of them handles hundreds of email accounts, dozens of web domains, hosting online game worlds, etc.

Money could be one reason. Linux comes at a lower price if the price includes support and services. RedHat's Linux or Novell's Linux cost less than Windows support costs.
Google for instance, runs Linux on all its servers and workstations. Some workstations run Windows as well. But Linux suits them better since they can tweak it to run to their needs. With Windows, they'd have to stand at Microsoft's doors everytime they come up with a special use case.
Yahoo runs FreeBSD for pretty much the same reason.
Amazon, eBay, PayPal, SecondLife and some more run Linux to reduce cost as well as to be free to tweak their systems to run to their needs without having to go to Microsoft's doors or to any UNIX vendor's doors.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

C++ is a tremendously popular language so which you would be able to write C++ code that could desire to artwork in the two homestead windows and Linux yet there remains fairly some working device particular stuff it quite is distinctive between them. So even thought it quite is possible to place in writing a application that could desire to be could artwork on the two, it may take some greater suitable attempt. As for Linux, it quite is an argument of fee. Linux may be put in on as many servers as they desire with no need to pay for it, yet for homestead windows they could could desire to pay for a replica for each server.
