I want to get the hottest mountain bike to hit the trails with this up coming summer, price is not an issue. What mountain bike will every one love to have in 2008 hard tail or full suspension?. What mountain bike has the best technology and design? What mountain bike can handle the widest range of off road terrain? I have looked at CANNONDALE, SPECIALIZED, GIANT, TREK. I personaly like the SPECIALIZED looks and technology. I really like the Stumpjumper FSR and S-Works full suspension models but I am keeping an open mind. What do you guys think is the hottest mountain bike for the 2008 model year?

I am just trying to give as much detail as I can in my question so people will not have to ask me for more detail. If you are only capable of reading one sentence do not answer my question and move on to a two word question so your brain will not hurt.

My friend, there are lots of incredibly hot mountain bikes out there. Your question shouldn't be: "which is best?" Your question should be: "which is the best for me and the way I want to ride my bike?"

A hardtail is great if you want the lightest bike and intend to do shorter ride on smoother trails. The further you intend to go and the the more rooty, rocky and technical the trail, the more you'll want a full suspension bike.

Keep in mind, there really isn't one ideal suspension design. All suspensions designs involve a series of trade offs that affect braking, traction, pedaling efficiency, comfort and stiffness. The key to buying a bike is to test ride several on the type of trails you want to ride. Buy that one that feels and performs the best for you.

To this end, Cannondale, Specialized, Giant, Trek and Fisher all make excellent bikes. So do smaller companies like Intense, Santa Cruz, Titus, Turner, Litespeed and Ellsworth. If money is no object, ride some carbon bikes. (The great thing about a carbon bike is you'll be able to get another shortly!) The key is you must do more than look at the bikes and compare specs. Get demo bikes and go hit the trails until you find the one that is perfect for you.

Hope this helps you.

I personally ride Giant high end XC bikes and love them soooo much!
But.. if I was to change my bike, I'd choose Specialized S-Works, indeed! Personally, one of my favourite bikes is Specialized S-Works Epic Disc- it comes in full XTR, one of the best Fox forks available, pretty awesome disc brakes (although I would prefer Avid Juicies), Mavic Crossmax rims and so on..... . totally awesome! I don't know if it's in 2008 but if it was in 07 it'll be in 08 also.

This bike starts around 8500 bucks, however, it's totally a classic high-end XC racing machine (that's why I love it). ponder it. it doesn't mean though, that it's not suitable for trails.
But remember- PRICE DOESN'T ENSURE YOU THE BEST QUALITY. Also, what really you need.... nuff much- I'm a pro biker and I ride a bike which costs around 5000 bucks. and I'm really really happy with it.

as for the question- which bike can handle the widest range of off road terrain..... you can buy a bike around 2000 or even less which will get you through anything, even more considering that the trails ain't anything as hard as a good XC marathon track :) so most of the high-end bikes can handle almost anything- there's only your choice

and the question - What mountain bike will every one love to have in 2008 hard tail or full suspension? ......wtf? are you a dandy willing to have a bike to show off the ppl or really do the work in the woods with your machine? hmmm

As for the other bikes... For me, there are only four really amazing bike brands- Giant, Specialized, Cannondale and Merida. Trek sucks (in my eyes) not just it's bad but somehow i've been trough a lot of troubles with it. Cannondale is my third favourite brand and I love their Scalpel Xc racing series! theyre simply amazing! have you ever seen a Cannon Scalpel Team Replica? trust me it looks cooler than your girlfriend! :D

haha but for you- I suggest you to take a strrooooong look at Cannondale Prophet 1. it's definitely not a racing bike, but it's totally for hitting trails and just about anything. if I was about hitting trails this would be my ultimate choice. it should retail around the same price as Spec S-Works.
cheers

Whats the limit? you're willing to spend over 8,000 bucks for a mtb just because it's the hottest stuff?

What type of riding do you want to do? Dont think Specialized, Trek and Giant, go for smaller builders like Turner, Ventana USA, Titus, Santa Cruz, Pivot, Knolly, Nicolai, Seven, Moots and others.

if price wouldn't be an issue then go for the most expensive bike. some say that price do not guarantee the best bike but i beg to disagree. for me there are only three kinds of bikes: bmx, mountain, and road bikes.

if this is your first time and you are not sure what to get yet, get a cheapest mountain bike. from there you will know what to upgrade.

most bike manufacturers offer different models for each series. but trust me, the frame is just the same and the only things that differ are the components. the higher the number the higher end the components.

if price is not an issue try to choose the best components if you want the bike to suit your riding style. choose the best looking frame if you want to show your bike off.

for the best components, here is the list:

1.fork: fox around $800 - one fork may cost an entire hardtail bike

2. hydraulic disc brake: avid front - around $300
rear - around $300

3. brake levers: asv around $100

4. headset: colnago - around $100

5. handlebar: easton or fsa - around $200

6. shifters: sram - around $550

7. derailleur: front shimano xtr - around $200
rear compagnolo - around $300

8. crankset: fsa k force atb - around $600

9. cassette:compagnolo record - around $500

10. saddle:terry - around $150

these are not the only components and if you sum this up, you would be spending around $4000.

choose titus, intense, ventanausa, or sycip for the frame. the frame would cost around $4000 to fit these all in.

now, whatever they say, you have the best mountain bike in the world.

You are all over the map with your choices. Spending big bucks almost requires that you pare down what kind of riding you will do because as bikes get more expensive they become more dedicated to a single use.

So, if you want to provide HOW and WHERE you are going to ride as well as your experience it will be a big benefit to those who want to answer your question.
